Photo caption reads: Yoke Castings for Second 5000-K.W., Westinghouse, Rotating-Field Generator -- for Rapid Transit Subway Construction Co., New York City. The Rapid Transit Subway Construction Company (RTSCC) was organized in 1900 to supervise and oversee the building of the subway system. Their responsibilities included the building of track, stations, powerhouses and substations; the acquisition of all machinery for generating electricity for motive power, signalling and lighting; supervising the work of subcontractors; and securing financial arrangements for carrying on all of their work.
The origin of this photo is not known, but may have been provided to RTSCC by one of their sub-contractors or suppliers.
