Verso: "The Elevated Railway, popularly called/ the "L," runs high above the streets and/ is a favorite mode of travel for sightseers./ This view was taken from Battery Park/ looking toward Bowling Green, the Custom/ House is on the right."

The elevated line depicted could be the 2nd, 3rd, or 9th Ave. lines, as this part of Manhattan was a terminus for the elevated lines.
